Pleiku is an unassuming little city in the Vietnamese Highlands. Cool temps, hardly any sights, no tourists, nicely cheap. Just what I was looking for.

These workers reminded me of the dedicated grooming brigades in North Korea, cutting the the gras around the Dear Leaders' monuments with scissors.

That disgusting smell of smouldering gras. No idea why they did it. But everyone was okay with.

Randomly drawn into a birthday party on the way home

Often the kids and me didn't share a common a language. However, more than once I discerned a "Messi or Ronaldo?" from their speech.

Then I leaned into a lengthy monologue why I don't care about football.....

lol, no

I just answered with "Messi" or "Ronaldo" and all the kids erupted.

I was truly positively surprised about the Vietnamese. Dry, red and white, and affordable too, starting at around 3€
