Morocco Road Trip

The blue city

Everything is blue — the walls, the stairs, the pots, the cats. Not one shade of blue but dozens: electric, powder, slate, cerulean, midnight. Legend says the Jewish community painted the town blue in the 1930s as a symbol of heaven and the sky. Whatever the reason, it works.

I got genuinely lost for two hours in the medina's backstreets. Every time I thought I'd found my way back to the plaza, I ended up somewhere I'd never been. Eventually stopped trying to navigate and just wandered.
